welcome home elias!

Well our stay in the hospital was over yesterday (Sunday)! It was a little bit of a mini "vacation" for Joel and I (mainly me...getting waited on hand and foot...served every meal in bed...it's the life). But we were really excited to get home and see Corbin and Gma Cathy and settle in! Elias seems so tiny when he is in his car seat! He left the hospital weighing 7 lbs 2 oz....3 pounds lighter than Corbin was!!!
Good-bye hospital....Hello home, sweet, home!
Corbin is so excited to have a little brother! We weren't sure how he would react, but he was so excited when he woke up from his nap and Elias was in his crib! Corbin calls him "e i" or "bebe"!!!
Corbin was very insistent that he hold his little brother! He was pretty gentle at first, but didn't want to have anyone take him out of his arms!
Brothers hanging out in their chairs!!!
The first night went so well! Corbin slept all the way through the night (even when Elias threw a fit during a diaper change)!!! Elias did really well too! He just woke up for feedings! Hopefully this continues!!

In labor...NOT in labor...in labor...Baby!

Our regular scheduled checkup turned into quite a day! High blood pressure called for
some tests and monitoring of Emily and the baby.
With everything checking out okay, the doctor said we could go home, but Emily would be
on bed rest.
So...out to eat we went...Perkins of course.
Next came VERY Strong contractions for over 1 hour
So...back to the hospital we go to be monitored.
1 hour later...nurse says there isn't any change and so Emily will most likely go home.
But...the doctor said no, keep her and monitor for at least one more hour,
Because...WE LIVE 1 1/2 HOURS AWAY FROM THE HOSPITAL!
So...We stayed.
and it's a very good thing we did!
here is the order of the next events:
Emily's mom (Cathy) shows up
joel takes Cathy and Corbin to Hotel
Emily calls and says her water broke...to late for meds
Joel breaks the speed law
Joel gets to hospital at 11:35pm
Emily says the baby is coming at 11:44pm
Baby is born 11:46 pm
Doctor shows up 11:47pm
mommy was a trooper!
Mommy and baby are doing great and looking beautiful!
God is great...all the time!!!
Getting ready to be monitored for high blood pressure
after scheduled appointment.

Corbin giving mom some love and attention.
Guess who decided he wanted to see the world?

kisses

Corbin giving "baby" a kiss!

I'm still pregnant...don't worry! The baby will probably stay in until forced out, guess I'm just lucky that way! To pass the time we have gone for walks, eaten lots of freezer pops and watched lots of movies! I haven't gotten that psycho nesting feeling for several days now...so it may still be awhile! Seems like everyone I know that could be having their baby early is, so I'm getting a little antsy to have mine out too! Corbin has been super well behaved over the past week (except when tired) which has made my life so much easier! He is enjoying his final moments of being the only child! If I am still pregnant tomorrow...planning on it anyway...I have an appointment with my doc. Hopefully it is filled with good news and great joy (meaning hopefully progress has been made and I don't burst into tears)!!!

picnic at the park

Sunday after church, we drove up to Lake Metigoshe and had a picnic in the park! The food was so good! Nothing like burgers, corn-on-the-cob and baked beans!!
Enjoying his burger.
Taking a walk with dad!
It was such a nice day! The perfect day to take a dip in the lake!
We also enjoyed some ice cream before we drove home! It was such a relaxing day! Hopefully we are able to fit in one or two more before the baby's born!

1 step closer

Corbin's room is almost there! We put up the shelves!
And put his name back up on the wall!
Now, we just need to get the nightstand ready!

day to relax

On Thursday, I had my 38 week appointment. We drove the 1 1/2 hour drive to Minot yet again. Some progress has been made...but no baby yet! I have had pretty severe swelling this pregnancy so the Dr. told me no salt (or as little as possible). Talk about hard! I guess I will just have to indulge my sweets cravings instead!
After my appointment, we went to "relax" at Space Aliens with a dessert. Corbin didn't really like the idea of relaxing, but it was still a pretty fun time. When we bought our dessert, we got $5 worth of tokens free to use for the games. We didn't get many tickets this time around, but we had fun regardless! And Corbin got his 'm ms'...aka M&Ms.
Corbin and I hung out for awhile because Joel had a meeting. Corbin enjoyed a bag of popcorn at Target while I shopped (works like a charm, too bad they got rid of the 99 cent popcorn and 1 cent pop though...that stunk). Then we went to the other side of the mall and visited the puppy at Old Navy. Corbin could sit with that puppy all day!
We realized when we walked into Perkins for supper that it was going to be an interesting meal! Corbin was done for the day...exhausted, hungry and at breaking point! But, somehow we made it through the meal without getting too many glares or getting kicking out (that was a miracle)!
Then home again, home again! And now it is time to relax. No more travels until the baby decides to arrive! Keep us in your prayers if you think about us...especially for the big adjustments for Corbin! I'll keep you updated with the progress!

CLB Convention

My favorite place on earth is Fergus Falls! I miss living there so much. It's gorgeous! There are lots of trees and little hills and lakes/ponds and a TARGET!!! I have so many memories from there that bring tears to my eyes (good tears) when I think about them! And this week we were able to get back "home" and get refreshed. Many good friends and fellow families in the ministry were there...just like old times. Thank you all so much for the fellowship and friendship renewed and also friendships gained! I will be praying for all of you!

Getting ready and relaxing!

Last week, it rained almost everyday. Saturday was beautiful though... so Corbin took a dip in the pool.
Corbin dressed himself...t-shirt and shorts on his legs!
I had the door to the nursery open and I think Corbin still remembers it was once his room. He wanted in the crib, in the closet, in the dresser and enjoyed taking apart the toy box! He also wanted to wear his baby shoes from last summer. I don't think they fit anymore!
Last Saturday, also seemed to me like the perfect day to paint. So, Joel sanded down this chair and painted and recovered it. I painted some shelves to go on the wall in Corbin's room. Now we have a nice chair to sit on and read with Corbin every night.
(I also found a nightstand for his room at a garage sale! I am really excited to get it in the room...but it needs some TLC first.)
I can't believe there is only a few short weeks left before baby #2 is due to arrive! It seems like I have been pregnant forever and yet it has gone by so fast (not complaining)! Corbin is going to be a great big brother! He has learned the baby's name (but only says it if we say it first). He gives my belly kisses and hugs all the time! I am excited to see him kissing and hugging the baby though, instead of my big belly!

Crossing things off!

Here it is...the nursery! I have been nesting like crazy the past few days and last night I felt the urge to clean my bedroom and the nursery at about midnight...so Joel slept on the couch!
This is the other side of the nursery (looking from the chair). It doesn't have all the little touches yet, but it will come together.
And this is Corbin's room...

I still need to get shelves to put on the wall above the dresser to put all his treasures.
And here is his bed! I have his name to go on the wall above the bed, just haven't got there yet. We are also looking for something for a nightstand that doesn't have sharp corners. We sit in the chair every night and do devotions with him and read his new Thomas book from Gma Cathy.

His closet is still really clean! He doesn't like to play in there unless it's nap or bed time...so it's pretty neat other than that. (He can really rip the room apart though if he doesn't nap!)

So that is just a few of the things off my long list of "before baby arrives...to do"! I have also sorted through all his toys. His clothes are all in tubs according to size, too! The flowerbeds have been planted! The list is getting crossed off!!!

Our Little Cutie!

On Sunday after church I snapped a few pictures of Corbin in his super cute vest! He was so cute!!!

His fake smile!
His toothy smile!
I love this little guy so much! And I can't stop thinking how big he is going to look when the baby comes! My little Corbin is going to be a big brother! It will be interesting to find out how he feels about it! He is enjoying all the baby toys being brought out!!! Only a few short weeks left to go!!!

All Done!

Guess what is in all of these pictures that is no longer in any pictures???
Hint: Corbin is not the answer.

Answer: Pacifier!!!!

It has been about 3 weeks without a paci in Corbin's mouth!!! We went cold turkey (that seemed to be the only way to get rid of it). It has gone great! Way better than expected! He saw a little boy last week with one and didn't seem to even notice it!

That is the latest "change" in our home...next, it will be baby!!!

Many Roles!

THANK YOU, GMA CATHY!!! This week, Gma Cathy came up to stay the week and watch Corbin while Joel and I spend our evenings (and most of the day too) with VBS! She did way more than just watch Corbin though...she crossed off several items from my "list"!
Thank you so much!
We love you!
Come back soon!

Welcome to...

Outrigger Island!
Daddy and Corbin catching the waves!
JP the penguin came back this year to help us celebrate! Every evening we started off with a meal for the families.
All of the helpers got this wonderful lime green t-shirt...so we really got to stick out!
Me (emily) and Michelle at the registration table...ready for the 69 kids that came??? It was such a blessing to get all those kids! When we counted up all the kids we have in our elementary school, only about 30 of them didn't show up!!!

The kids really enjoyed the music at Worship Rally Lagoon...the kickoff to each evenings fun...led by Joel! They had a Bible lesson in the Beach Hut, Missions lesson on top of Lookout Mountain, made some really fun crafts in the Craft Cabana, and got wet with all the games!!!
We had the program on Friday night and it went really well! The kids did great! They all got the same lime green t-shirts...so our town will be lit up!!!
Corbin thought JP was pretty cool, but not cool enough to take a picture with him by himself.
Most of our decorations came from the school's prom this year! They had an island theme and so we snagged all their decorations and put our twist on them! The volcano was an idea Joel got...it was so much fun for the kids! It really smoked...when they sang loud enough!

We also did 2 missions projects throughout the week. One was to raise money to buy Bibles for 2 local mission churches. The boys went against the girls to raise the money and this year the boys won! Total they sent out 228 Bibles!!! The second was to bring in some items to send as gifts to people in Sudan and Pakistan. The response was overwhelming! God is SO GOOD!!!
